Chemeketa Community College is a public, two year, co-educational institution. It is one of the largest accredited colleges in the Oregon Community College System. Chemeketa is fully-accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. We award associate degrees in over forty technical-vocational fields and a broad range of college transfer courses. Intensive English language training is provided through the Chemeketa Language and Culture Institute. Chemeketa Community College is an exciting and diverse place to learn and grow. Students from all age groups and experiences with a wide variety of educational goals attend.
As an admitted student to Chemeketa Community College, the successful completion of your academic career and cultural goals is very important to us. Our International Programs (IP) are available to help you succeed in the academic community. We offer help with orientation program, housing assistance and home-stay program, healthcare resource assistance, conversation tables, academic advising, volunteer and leadership opportunities, cultural and educational excursions, and career planning and development. Chemeketa Community College students participate in student clubs and organizations, student government, student newspaper, internships, community volunteer services, college committees, and the Cultural Forum cultural awareness project. The main campus of Chemeketa Community College is located in the capital city of Salem, Oregon, surrounded by the fertile Willamette Valley.

Chemeketa is on the quarter system. Fall, winter and spring terms are 11 weeks in length. Summer programs are available for shorter lengths. ENGLISH PROGRAMS
The Chemeketa Language and Culture Institute provides intensive English instruction for international students planning to enter American colleges and universities. It's also a place for students to experience American culture at the same time.
Enrolling in the Language and Culture Institute is an excellent way for students with a low TOEFL or IELTS score to improve their language skills and be formally admitted to a college major at Chemeketa or in preparation to transfer to a 4 year university.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
To receive the Associate of Arts Transfer Degree, students must complete a minimum of 90 credit hours as required by the college with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in all work applied to the chosen degree. To earn the Associate of General Studies degree, students must complete a minimum of 90 credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in all coursework completed. Students seeking to earn the Applied Science Degree should refer to the Chemeketa Community College catalogue for information on requirements relating to their chosen program of study.
ENTRANCE TESTS REQUIRED
- No TOEFL or IELTS scores are required for admissions.
- Chemeketa offers comprehensive language and college level studies and can accept students at all levels.

- Test scores submitted during the admissions process are used for advising placement purposes only.
- This process provides the student with successful class selection.

Each year there may be a variety of organizations that support international students, such as: Juntos, Asian Cultural Club, Pacific Islander Club, and Mutlicultural Student Services.
APPLICATION MATERIALS REQUESTED
All documents can be sent by fax or scanned and e-mailed if the originals are also sent by postal mail. The following checklist is designed to help you complete our application.
All New Students must:
- Complete the International Admission Application pages (1-4)
- A copy of your passport and any previous U.S. visas
- All required financial documents:
Bank Statements, signed by a bank official, indicating the name of the account holder and the amount of funds available. All statements must be dated within the last 60 days.
- Submit a Copy of Your Scholarship Award Letter, signed by an official of the sponsoring agency, indicating support guaranteed.
- If anyone has agreed to sponsor you, please have them complete the International Student Letter of Support (page 4)
If you are transferring from a school in the United States in addition to the items above you must:
- Have your current International Student Advisor fill out the International Student Transfer Questionnaire and return it to Chemeketa
- Submit a transcript.
- Submit copies of your I-94 and I-20 from current school.

HOUSING
Although Chemeketa Community College does not provide on-campus housing, many of our international students live in one of several apartment complexes very close to the college. Most of these students walk, ride bikes, or take a bus from the apartments to the campus. Some students drive, which can make transportation more convenient, but it is not a necessity. We also have a Homestay Program and may be able to place you with a local host family. This program is very popular and requires you to plan ahead.
CLIMATE & GEOGRAPHY
Climate: Temperatures in the summer (June, July, and August) may vary from about 10°C to above 30°C, while winter temperatures vary from about 0°C to 15°C. Students are advised to plan for summer heat and occasional winter snow.
Geography: Chemeketa Community College's main campus is located in Salem, the capital city of Oregon. The campus has nine major buildings and a number of smaller buildings housed on 194 acres. Facilities include modern classrooms, laboratories, and computer facilities; the Learning Resource Center, holding the Library, media services, distance-education programs, and a television studio; and the physical education building, with complete workout and exercise facilities. The college also operates welding and manufacturing shops, and a fire-training building that also serves as a fire station. The college district encompasses over 4,000 square kilometers in Oregon's mid-Willamette Valley; campuses are also located in the communities of Dallas, McMinnville, Santiam, and Woodburn. Salem is about 75 kilometers south of the Portland International Airport.
